Things to Consider When Shopping for Shirts to Embroider
Pique, Jersey, Blend?
Pique (pee-kay) is a knitted fabric with a waffle, or diamond-shaped pattern which is similar to a mesh. Jersey is knitted fabric with a plain, flat surface on the outside and a textured surface inside, like a t-shirt. A blend fabric usually includes polyester. In any case, it’s not 100% cotton.

Most shirts are embroidered on the left chest (the wearer’s left). If there is a pocket on the shirt, the embroidery is centered above the pocket. Other popular locations are on the sleeve of polo shirts and on the back of the shirt just below the collar. There is a additional charge for more than 1 embroidery location.

Things to Consider When Shopping for Outerwear to Embroider
The largest embroidery we offer for chest must fit within a 5” diameter. We can do full back embroidery of jackets or full front embroidery of sweatshirts or other items for a higher per charge.

Most outerwear is embroidered on the left chest (the wearer’s left). Another popular location is on the back just below the collar or neckband. On some pullovers, a design placed in the center front is attractive.

Polar Fleece Considerations:

Avoid very small letters on polar fleece embroidery because the letters will “sink in” the knap of the fleece and seemingly disappear. If you need to include small letters we’ll need to sew a fill underneath that area.

Things to Consider When Shopping for Hats & Caps to Embroider
Adjustable Caps - have a strap in the back
Flexfit Hats - are a trademarked product that mimic a traditional fitted hat
All Fitted Hats - includes Flexfit as well as any brands where there is no adjustment feature
Visors - have a limited area for embroidery because of their height
Bucket Hats - are a fun hat variety
Other Hats - includes beanies and other non-traditional headwear

The height of headwear embroidery is limited to about 2.25” for most caps and hats, except for visors, which may be limited to heights as small as 1.50”. Most headwear can be embroidered on the sides and on the back. Embroidery on the back of a cap requires a separate operation and entails an additional charge for a second location.

Because headwear is embroidered on a special fixture, it requires a setup separate from other items. For this reason, if you order headwear plus other items, we will generally prepare two (2) designs - one for the headwear and another for the other items.

Things to Consider When Shopping for Accessories to Embroider

Blankets or throws are embroidered diagonally across the lower right corner of the blanket. For larger designs, centered and just above the center line.

Depending on the item you choose, the embroidery design will most likely have to conform to the space afforded by that particular item. This is particularly true with bags, If you’re interested in a bag, it’s best to call and talk with one of our customer service reps about that particular item.

On blankets and throws, a larger design is usually best. These larger designs work well on aprons and towels as well.
